Who had the best outdoor season?

The outdoor season in track and field is just about over, and what a season it was.

We saw countless records broken throughout the season at each level of the sport during this historic outdoor season.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone obliterated her own world record at the World Championships with her 50.68 performance in the 400m hurdles. Noah Lyles took down Michael Johnson’s 200m American record at those same championships, with his time of 19.31 in the event. Lyles went on to win the Diamond League title, running impressive times that were good enough to break meet records that were held by the likes of Usain Bolt.

Kara Winger finished off her incredible career by not only taking home the silver medal at this year’s World Championships, but she won the NACAC title, the Diamond League title, while also setting the American Record in the javelin. Armand Duplantis vaulted to new heights, literally, as he broke the world record that he set in the pole vault.

Shericka Jackson put the world on notice in the women’s 200m with her sensational performance at Worlds this summer. Her time of 21.46 not only secured her a gold medal in the event, but it moved her up to No. 2 all time in the 200m. But she wasn’t the only Jamaican who set the track ablaze. Shelly-Anne-Fraser-Pryce dominated the women’s 100m. She not only won the Diamond League title and the World Championship in the event, but she ran 10.6 in the 100m seven times.

Yes, seven times.

But out of all of the remarkable performances that took place this season, the question remains: which athlete had the best season?

Aaron and Joshua Potts of 2 Black Runners join me to answer this question, preview next year’s World Championship team and more on this edition of A Bucket of Track Talk and Fried Chicken.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
