On Friday, the nation’s best high school and college athletes will take center stage at various regions across the U.S. to see who’s the best at their respective event.
The best high school athletes in the country will be competing at the New Balance National Indoor Championships in Boston this weekend, as well as at the Nike Indoor National Championships at the Armory in New York. Across the country, track and field’s best collegiate athletes and teams will take their talents to Albuquerque, New Mexico to face off at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
While each championship meet that will be held across the U.S. promises to be one for the ages, let’s take a step back and look at a couple of the incredible performances that have taken place so far this season.
Julien Alfred, Texas. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the world record could be broken this weekend in the women’s 60m, and Alfred would be the athlete to break it. So far this season, she’s dominated the women’s 60m, running a blistering time of 6.97 in the event. That’s a collegiate record and the second fastest time run this season behind Aleia Hobbs (6.94).
Talitha Diggs, Florida. One of the best in the world continues to turn heads with her incredible performances in multiple events. So far this season, she’s run personal bests in the 60m (7.14), the 200m (22.65) and in the 400m (50.15). Her time in the 400m was fast enough to break the American record in the event.
Aiden Dixon, Atlantic High School. Dixon holds the fastest time this season among all high school athletes in the indoor 400m (46.95). He also won the Florida Indoor Championships back in February. In addition to his fantastic indoor time, the USF commit recently ran a 45.3 split on the anchor leg in the 4×400 relay to complete the come-from-behind win.
On this episode of Track Talk, I highlight a few other names that have stood out to me this indoor season.
