The Athletes Representing Team USA in Paris

Share this article:

With the Olympic Trials in books, we now have a good look at who will be representing Team USA in individual events on the track and in the field in Paris. It is a bit of a numbers game, and the official window has closed for World Ranking points to be the decider for anyone without the Olympic Standard. While the window to earn points closed on June 30, July 7 is the cutoff date for a world rankings entry to be finalized, and below is the list of athletes for Team USA going to the Paris Olympics as we see it today, and will be updated as more information and final entries come available.

A full listing of World Rankings by event and country is available here, from World Athletics

Those noted with a double asterisk (**) have qualified based on World Ranking rather than the Olympic Standard, and notes have been made in cases where an athlete outside of the top three from the Trials speculatively has potential to be on the final list for the team.

Abdi NurElise Cranny
Graham BlanksKarissa Schweizer
* Elle St. Pierre can decide to focus on the 1500m and pass on the 5000m, which could open the door for Parker Valby to take her place on the 5k team (and should she defer if she gets in for the 10k, may further open the door for Whittni Morgan). For the men, Parker Wolfe (who finished third at the Trials) has neither the Standard nor the ranking points, which should be Graham Blanks in the third spot following his fourth place finish at the Trials

10000 Meters

Grant FisherWeini Kelati
Woody Kincaid
Nico Young
* There is a lot to consider on the women’s side. Kelati has the Standard, so she is in, however Valby and Schweizer (2nd and 3rd at Trials) may be a little too far down the rankings without the Standard. Katie Izzo, who finished 13th at the Trials, may have a chance to make the team given her ranking points earned during cross country season

3000 Meter Steeplechase

Kenneth Rooks **Valerie Constien
Matthew Wilkinson **Courtney Wayment
James CorriganMarisa Howard
* Matthew Wilkinson is about as ‘on the bubble’ as someone could be. He is just on the edge of the qualification based on world ranking points, and there seems to be a bit of nuance involved here. World Athletics has both Hillary Bor and Anthony Rotich noted as part of the USA’s Country Quota, but given their finishes at the Trials, Rooks and Wilkinson technically would have first bite at the opening

High Jump

Shelby McEwenRachel Glenn
JuVaughn HarrisonVashti Cunningham
* Charity Hufnagel, who finished first at the Trials, may end up being too far down in the world rankings in lieu of having the Olympic Standard. Same story for Tyus Williams and Caleb Snowden for the men, which means JuVaughn Harrison in all likelihood will be on the team from his fourth place Trials finish

Hammer Throw

Rachel Tanczos
* Erin Reece finished third at the Trials, though may fall just short of the world rankings in lieu of having the Olympic Standard, which should place Tanczos on the team from her fourth place finish at the Trials (with the Standard)

Javelin

Curtis Thompson **Maggie Malone Hardin

Decathlon / Heptathlon

20k Race Walk

Both Nick Christie and Robyn Stevens won their respective Trials, but it would appear that they do not have the world ranking points in lieu of the Olympic Standard to join Team USA in Paris
