The finale on the evening of the sixth day of competition at the Olympic Trials lived up to the hype. Grant Holloway ran his second fastest time ever in the 110 meter hurdles, with Freddie Crittenden and Daniel Roberts following with personal bests, each running incredible times to secure their placement on Team USA for the Paris Olympics.
Settled into lane six with Crittenden to his right in lane seven, Holloway shot out of the blocks and blazed through the 110 meter stretch, running the fourth fastest-time in world history, finishing in 12.86 seconds. Crittenden hung tight to Holloway during the race, finishing second in a big personal best of 12.93, and Roberts in lane four in third place with 12.96. These three men made history altogether, making this the first time ever three athletes would go sub-13 in the same race.
This is Crittenden’s first time on Team USA at an Olympics or World Championships, though he does have international experience under his belt, having earned a silver medal at the 2019 Pan American Games and a gold at the 2022 NACAC Championships. Roberts is the 2023 World Championships bronze medalist and is a three-time USA Champion in the 110mH (’19, ’22, and ’23).
Holloway will look toward redemption in Paris, as the silver medal he earned in Tokyo is the only non-gold finish he has had at any major championships since 2019. Grant appears to be in top form coming out of these Trials. He posted a sub-13 second time in each round of the hurdles, running 12.92 in the heats and 12.96 in the semifinals.
