The 2024 NCAA 100m Champion and Team Great Britain sprint standout Louie Hinchliffe has announced that he is forgoing the remainder of his collegiate eligibility and is turning pro.
In a post to Instagram, Hinchliffe celebrated his achievements with the University of Houston and recent Olympic experience with Team GB. “What a season it’s been. I’ve experienced the highest of highs in my first year at the University of Houston. I’ve become an NCAA Champion, a National Champion, and an Olympic Semi-Finalist al whilst living out my dreams as a Cougar…I would like to thank Coach Blackburn and Coach [Carl] Lewis for your belief and support of me.”
Hinchliffe began his collegiate career with Washington State University. Ahead of the 2023-24 academic year, he transferred to Houston where he saw consistent improvement on the track. At the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships, he ran a personal best wind-legal time of 9.95 seconds for the 100m to earn the national title. Later that summer he would compete at the British Athletics Championships, earning his first senior National Championship in the same event. He was the first sprinter to win both the NCAA Division I and British championship in the same season.
At the Olympic in Paris, representing Team GB, he advanced to the semi-finals in the 100m, and earned a bronze medal as part of the 4x100m relay.
