Villanova has a history of getting it done at the Penn Relays.
In their home state of Pennsylvania, a quartet of Wildcats ran the 4xMile in a collegiate first-ever sub-16 minute time en route to a #2 all-time performance in the event.
Sean Donoghue, Charlie O’Donovan, Marco Langon, and Liam Murphy took care of business on Saturday by running times of 3:59.32, 4:00.09, 3:58.18, and 3:54.32, respectively. In the race, teams from University of Virginia and Georgetown also ran below the 16 minute mark, making it one of the most incredible relays run in recent history. They topped a record that had been standing since 2009, set be a University of Oregon squad with Matt Centrowitz, Galen Rupp, Andrew Wheating, and Shadrack Biwott (16:03.24).
Fun fact, the team from Georgetown had all 4 guys all run sub-4:00 miles (the only team to do that), yet finished third. Lucas Guerra, 3:59.61- Parker Stokes, 3:59.89 – Camden Gilmore, 3:58.82 – Abel Teffra, 3:54.26.
The all-time record (15:49.02) belongs to a legendary Irish team from 1985 made up of Eamonn Coghlan, Marcus O’Sullivan, Frank O’Mara, and Ray Flynn.
