The Prefontaine Classic announced today that the 1500m field is going to include some of the world’s top middle distance stars.

Nikki Hiltz and Elle St Pierre of the USA will be joining Australia’s Jessica Hull on the starting line on May 25 in Eugene.

Hiltz is coming in after a hot indoor season in which they earned the 1500m USA Championship and followed it with a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow. They posted a solid 800 meter performance recently at the Oxy Invitational, breaking the tape in 2:00.33. Nikki has a 1500m personal best time of 3:59.61, ran last season in Monaco.

Elle St Pierre is also coming into the outdoor season off a phenomenal indoor season. Following a win in the mile at the Millrose Games, St Pierre won both the USA and World Indoor Championship in the 3000 meters. At the 2022 edition of the Pre Classic, Elle finished sixth in the 1500m in 3:59.68. Her personal best in the event is 3:58.03 from 2021.

Jessica Hull recently won the Australian national championship in the 1500m and has a 3000m victory from the Sydney Track Classic in March. She earned an 8th place finish at the Pre Classic in 2023 (3:57.57) which also served as the Diamond League Final. Hull’s personal best 1500m is from 2023 with a time of 3:57.29, and she is the Australian Record Holder in distances ranging from 1500m to 5000m, indoors and out.
