The opening day on the track saw the world’s best take to Paris’s purple oval, vying for the title of World’s Fastest Woman. The heats for the 100 meters concluded the action for the morning session at the Paris Olympics, and each member of Team USA, including world leader and probable favorite Sha’Carri Richardson, rolled on to the the semi-finals.
Richardson started her Olympics in lane six in the first heat of the 100 meters. She came out of the blocks and quickly went to the lead, sprinting to the finish line in 10.94 seconds. She was the only one to run under 11 seconds for the heat.

In the third heat, USA’s Melissa Jefferson also had a sub-11 race. She finished second in her heat to Great Britain’s Daryll Neita, running 10.96 to Neita’s 10.92. TeeTee Terry took to the 100m in the morning’s sixth heat, winning her race in 11.15 seconds.
Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce had the two fastest times for the morning round of qualifiers, running 10.87 and 10.92, respectively. World standouts who advanced include Julien Alfred, Tia Clayton, Dina Asher-Smith, and Ewa Swoboda.
