The British Olympic Association has officially announced the Team Great Britain athletics squad for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, boasting a powerhouse lineup of Olympic, World, and European medalists.
Headlining the squad are reigning Olympic medalists Keely Hodgkinson (800m), Josh Kerr (1500m), Holly Bradshaw (pole vault), and Laura Muir (1500m). These elite athletes are set to bring their medal-winning form to the French capital next month.
The team’s strength is further bolstered by reigning world heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who will be competing in her fourth Olympic Games. Joining her is 2022 world 1500m champion Jake Wightman, who will switch gears to contest the men’s 800m (update: Jake Wightman Withdraws from Paris Olympics 800m). Making her Olympic debut is world indoor pole vault champion and UK record holder Molly Caudery, ready to make her mark on the Olympic stage. British record holder Zharnel Hughes, who was granted a medical exemption from the UK Championships following a mid-season hamstring injury, is on the roster in the 100m and 200m.
Fresh faces Phoebe Gill and Louie Hinchliffe have also earned their spots after standout performances at the UK Athletics Championships last weekend. Gill triumphed in the 800m, while Hinchliffe, also fresh off his winning NCAA Championships performance, sprinted to victory in the 100m, securing their places in their first Olympic Games.
With a blend of experienced champions and exciting new talent, Team GB is poised for a thrilling and competitive showing at Paris 2024.
