Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone to Race 200m at LA Grand Prix Instead of 400m Hurdles

The Los Angeles Grand Prix updated their featured starters this morning with a notable change: Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was moved from the 400 meter hurdles to the 200 meters.

It had been expected that the LA Grand Prix would be Sydney’s first return to the hurdles since 2022, but it looks like we will have to wait for another day. McLaughlin-Levrone had originally been listed on the LA Grand Prix website’s featured starters for the 400 meter hurdles, along side Dalilah Muhammad and Anna Cockrell, however she has been removed from that event listing and is now posted under the 200 meters, featured with Gabby Thomas and Abby Steiner.

The last time she took on the hurdles was in Hungary in August of 2022, the only time she has contested the event since her world record performance at the 2022 Eugene World Championships. In 2023, McLaughlin-Levrone raced one indoor 60 meters at the New Balance Grand Prix, and continued into the outdoor season with five flat 400 meter races, one of which being the USA Outdoor Championships, which she won.

So far this season, we have seen Sydney compete at Mt. SAC in the 4x100m relay, and most recently at the Oxy Invitational, where she ran the 100 / 200 double, winning each race.
