Trayvon Bromell Set to Make Return at Ed Murphey Classic

Trayvon Bromell, who suffered an injury at the Savona Meet in Italy in May which took him out of the Olympic Trials, is set to make his return to the track at the Ed Murphey Classic.

The Ed Murphey Classic is part of the American Track League calendar and will take place in Memphis, Tennessee from July 11 – 13, with elite competition on each day of the schedule. Field events will take place on Friday, track events on Saturday, and a pole vault competition (in addition to the Beale Street Murphey Mile) on Sunday. Bromell will race on Friday, July 12 as part of the track portion of the program.

A livestream is scheduled for Friday evening’s events; more details to come on viewing information.

Trayvon Bromell was a solid contender in a crowded field to make the team for Paris until his aforementioned injury. He holds two individual bronze medals in the 100m from World Championships (2015 and 2022) and was the 2022 Diamond League champion in the same event. His career on the track has been plagued by injury, though he consistently has shown resolve to get back to the heights of the sport.

In 2016, Bromell made it to the Rio Olympics but suffered a severe Achilles injury during the 4×100 meter relay final, which required surgery, causing him to miss the nearly the entire 2017 and 2018 seasons, returning to competition in 2019. Through it all Bromell continued to push to get back to the track strong and healthy, earning a spot on Team USA for the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, in addition to winning a bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships (100 meters). After the USA Championships in 2023, he shut down his season to have season-ending surgery for a bone spur in his right foot.

Should you be in the Memphis area, tickets to the Ed Murphey Classic are available for $10 in advance of the meet, or $15 at the door, with kinds 10 and under free. VIP tickets, which include catered food and drinks, are available for $100. Tickets can be purchased here.
