USATF Outdoor Championships: Venue, Schedule, and How to Watch

Share this article:

The 2026 USATF Outdoor Championships are set for Icahn Stadium in New York from July 23-26. This is a departure from recent history, with Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon having been home to the meet since 2021. In fact, this is the first time since 2019 we are getting the meet outside of the Pacific Northwest, when they were held on the Blue Oval at Drake Stadium in Des Moines (notably, there was no Championship in 2020).

In fact, this is the first time east coast has had the meet since 1991. The site is the same, but with a few differences. First, in ’91, it was at Downing Stadium in New York, demolished in 2002 to make way for the current venue. The previous landmark played host to 22,000 spectators, whereas Icahn houses a capacity of 5,000 seats, though undoubtedly, temporary seating can be added in times of need. To note, the 2025 USATF Championships in Eugene saw an average daily attendance of just over 6,600. Given the difference in access to accommodations and ease of travel, it is possible we will see full crowds at Icahn. It is worth noting, however, that the greater population of New York City may be less inclined to support such an event than the diehard fans who inhabit TrackTown USA.

A full schedule of events is available from USATF here, which also includes details on the Para National Championship events. Thought start lists have not as yet been finalized, a status of entries is available here.
