Valarie Allman is easily one of the greatest discus throwers in USA history, and now she has cemented her legacy as one of the greatest in the world.
At the Olympics in Paris, Allman would earn her second Olympic gold medal in the discus, defending the Olympic Champion title she earned in Tokyo.
After fouling on her first attempt, her second throw would have been enough to secure the victory at 68.74 meters. In the fourth round however, she would let loose at 69.50 meter throw which would give confidence of eventual victory through the rest of the competition. China’s Bin Feng earned Olympic silver (67.51m) and Croatia’s Sandra Elkasevic the bronze, also with a 67.51m throw, a new personal best.

This Olympic win was not just a statement win from the perspective of retaining her title as Olympic Champion, however it was also a move back to the top of the podium. At the 2022 and 2023 World Championships, Allman would come away with bronze and silver, respectively. Her personal best in the discus throw is 71.46 meters from 2022 is the American record. She is the only American discus thrower to go beyond 70 meters with a throw in the event.
