“This is better than I could ever have imagined” – Emma Coburn

“I was hoping to finish in the top five or six” – Courtney Frerichs

I vividly recall sitting in the stands of the London stadium with my fellow USA Track & Field Foundation board members as this race unfolded. With a lap to go we were on our feet hoping that Emma could somehow split up the three Kenyan-born athletes and get a medal. Our excitement turned into a frenzy when Courtney boldly challenged for the lead on the backstretch. Our frenzy turned into hysteria as Emma aggressively surged ahead off the water jump with Courtney in tow. Just wow.

Enough said. Relive it yourself here:

Amazing race. Tactically brilliant and super tough racing by both Emma and Courtney.
