Real Talk with Marie Josée Ta Lou

This week on RealTalk, I had an amazing time meeting with African 100m Record Holder Marie Josée Ta Lou. Born and raised in the Ivory Coast, Marie had her mind set to become a football player (American Soccer) until her brother suggested she try athletics (track and field). To end her 2022 track season, Ta Lou ran a personal best of 10.72 in 100m, which makes her tied for 7th fastest women ALL TIME.

Ta Lou enjoys a few things off the track, such as spending time with God, helping others, and also cooking. She also has some career goals outside of track which includes opening a restaurant, and also starting her very own foundation.

In this episode, Marie takes us through her career from the very beginning. Growing up in Ivory Coast, it was uncommon to become a successful professional athlete. Ta Lou didn’t see this as her future. Her talent began to take her to higher levels, she commends God, and her support system for keeping her grounded. She shared that despite facing many adversities and injuries in this sport, there is no limit to where God can take her. WE ARE ROOTING FOR HER!
