Thorpe silver medal up for auction

A silver medal posthumously awarded to Jim Thorpe for the 1912 Olympics is currently up for auction after being discovered in an abandoned storage unit in Oklahoma City. Thorpe originally won gold in the pentathlon and decathlon but was stripped of his titles in 1913 due to amateurism rules. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) reinstated his titles in 1983, awarding replica medals to his family. In 2022, the IOC further recognized Thorpe as the sole champion of both events. The current bid is up to $10,500.
