Elite fields announced for NYC Half
The New York Road Runners (NYRR) announced the elite fields for the upcoming NYC Half Marathon, featuring defending champions, American record holders, Olympians, and Paralympians. Conner Mantz, Hillary Bor, and Biya Simbassa lead a strong men’s field, with Woody Kincaid and Moh Ahmed making their debut at the distance. Emily Sisson leads a women’s field that will also include returning champion Karoline Grøvdal, Calli Hauger-Thackery, Sara Hall, and Olympic Trials Marathon champion Fiona O’Keeffe.
Botswana to bid on 2026 World Relays
Botswana is advancing its bid to host the 2026 World Athletics Relays, with the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) aiming to align the event with the nation’s 60th independence anniversary celebrations. A delegation from the World Athletics Bid Committee is scheduled to visit Botswana next week to assess the country’s readiness. Hosting the World Relays would mark Botswana’s first time organizing this international biennial track and field event, which features relay teams from around the globe.
Mahuchikh sets world leading high jump
Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh jumped to a world-leading performance yesterday at the Banskobystricka latka meeting in Slovakia, by clearing 2.01 meters. This victory marked her fourth title at this event, equaling the competition’s record, which is a stop on the World Indoor Tour Silver schedule.
Keturah Orji announces her retirement
Three-time Olympian and 10-time USA Champion Keturah Orji has announced her retirement from track and field. Orji, who specialized in the triple jump, wrote about the reasons for her departure from the sport on her website, citing declining performance, distance from her husband, and body pains as all contributing to her decision, among others. She currently holds the American Record in the event (14.91m), and off the track is an Accredited Financial Counselor.
Kenyan refugee scholarship program hosts trials
The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK), in collaboration with various sports federations and organizations, including World Athletics, organized trials for refugee athletes in multiple events ranging from 200m to 5000m, with selected athletes receiving Refugee Athlete Scholarships for training and support. Nearly 50% of the 2016 Rio Olympics refugee team came from a Kenyan refugee camp. The Olympic Refuge Foundation continues to support displaced individuals through sports programs across Africa, where over 47 million of the world’s 120 million displaced people reside.
