Brimin Kipkorir suspended for testing positive for EPO

Kenyan marathoner Brimin Misoi Kipkorir has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for the prohibited substances Erythropoietin (EPO) and Furosemide. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) collected his sample during an out-of-competition test in November 2024. Kipkorir, 35, achieved notable victories, including setting a course record at the 2024 Sydney Marathon with a time of 2:06:18, and winning the Frankfurt Marathon in both 2022 and 2023, recording a personal best of 2:04:53 in the latter. This suspension adds to a series of doping cases among Kenyan athletes, with over 300 suspensions since 2015. The AIU, in collaboration with Kenyan authorities, has launched the Enhanced Anti-Doping Project to address these challenges through increased testing and education.

Five-time Olympic medalist Sanya Richards-Ross has announced that she and her husband, two-time Super Bowl Champion Aaron Ross, are expecting their third child. The couple shared the joyful news on Instagram during a “Coming to America”-themed celebration marking Sanya’s upcoming 40th birthday and their 15th wedding anniversary. In her post, Sanya expressed her excitement, stating, “I knew this birthday would be special but this was A LOT more than I could have imagined.”

Could Faith Kipyegon be the first woman to break the 4-minute mile barrier?

In 2023, Faith Kipyegon set a women’s mile world record of 4:07.06, sparking discussions about the possibility of a woman breaking the four-minute mile barrier. Professor Rodger Kram from the University of Colorado Boulder conducted a study suggesting that with optimal drafting—having pacers both in front of and behind her to reduce air resistance—Kipyegon could potentially achieve a time of approximately 3:59.37. This setup would require two sets of pacemakers or two male athletes for the entire race, which would disqualify the time as a world record, but it indicates that with strategic pacing, a sub-four-minute mile for women is theoretically attainable.
