Grand Slam Track signs TV deal to broadcast meets
Grand Slam Track has announced media rights partnerships with The CW Network and NBC Sports for its inaugural 2025 season. The CW will serve as the exclusive U.S. broadcast home, airing live competitions on Saturdays and Sundays, while Peacock will stream all events live, including exclusive Friday coverage. The season features four live competitions in Kingston, Miami, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, with the series kicking off on April 4.
Ethan Strand smashes NCAA indoor mile record
At the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday, University of North Carolina’s Ethan Strand set a new NCAA indoor mile record by finishing in 3:48.32. This performance not only surpassed the previous collegiate record of 3:50.39 held by Cooper Teare (2021) but also positioned Strand as the third-fastest indoor miler all-time, trailing only Yomif Kejelcha and Yared Nuguse.
George Mills sets UK record for indoor 3000m
On Sunday, at the Meeting de l’Eure in Val-de-Reuil, France, George Mills set a new UK indoor 3000m record with a time of 7:27.92, surpassing Josh Kerr’s previous record of 7:30.14. This performance places him ninth on the global indoor 3000m all-time list. Mills has spent the past three months training in South Africa, focusing on high mileage with significant threshold work in preparation for the coming season.
Shelby Houlihan returns to the track
After serving a four-year ban for a positive nandrolone test, American record holder Shelby Houlihan returned to competition by winning the 3000 meters at the Razorback Invitational with a time of 8:31.56, setting a new meet and facility record. Houlihan has consistently maintained her innocence, attributing the positive test to contaminated food. During her suspension, she trained independently without a coach or team.
RunSignUp reports growth in race participation
In their annual state of the industry report, RunSignUp reported an 8.2% year-to-year increase in participation for races that held registration on their platform, which they estimate to represent 45-50% of the U.S. market. Ultra events saw the largest percentage gain (14.2%) whereas races of 5k and less saw the largest overall participant increase. Their report also noted that prices increased across all events.
