Another world record for Grant Fisher
Grant Fisher set a new indoor 5000m world record with a time of 12:44.09 at the Boston University Valentine Invitational, breaking Kenenisa Bekele’s long-standing mark of 12:49.60 from 2004. Running solo for the final 2000 meters, Fisher maintained a blistering pace, averaging about 4:05 per mile. This record came just six days after his indoor 3000-meter world record at the Millrose Games.
Jacob Kiplimo runs new world record for half marathon
Jacob Kiplimo set a new half marathon world record of 56:42 at the Barcelona Half Marathon, becoming the first person to break the 57-minute barrier and smashing the previous record by 48 seconds. Running at an astonishing pace of 4:19 per mile (2:41 per kilometer), he surged ahead after the third kilometer and never looked back. Kiplimo reclaimed the record from Yomif Kejelcha. He previously set a record of 57:31 in 2021 before Kejelcha ran 57:30 in 2024. Notably, it was Kejelcha’s indoor mile world record that Yared Nuguse broke last weekend (prior to Ingebrigtsen besting Nuguse’s record days later).
UW’s Amanda Moll just fourth American woman to clear 16 feet in pole vault
Amanda Moll, from the University of Washington, set a new NCAA indoor pole vault record at the Kirby Invitational and became the first collegiate woman to surpass the 16-foot barrier (4.88 meters). She broke the previous record of 15 feet 7 inches (4.75 meters) multiple times in the same competition, first at 15-7.25 (4.76m) and then at 15-9.25 (4.81m) before her historic clearance. She joins Jenn Suhr, Sandi Morris, and Katie Moon as the only American women to jump 16 feet in competition.
DMR Record for University of Washington men
At their namesake meet, the Husky Classic, the University of Washington men’s distance medley relay (DMR) team set a new world record with a time of 9:14.10. The team comprised Ronan McMahon-Staggs (1200m), Bodi Ligons (400m), Kyle Reinheimer (800m), and Nathan Green (1600m). Their performance surpassed the previous world record of 9:14.58, set by the Brooks Beasts in 2024, and also broke the collegiate record of 9:16.40 held by Oklahoma State since 2023.
Ayyildiz runs collegiate mile record
Oregon junior Silan Ayyildiz set a new NCAA indoor mile record at the BU Valentine Invitational, running 4:23.46 to break Katelyn Tuohy’s previous mark of 4:24.26. She finished fifth overall in a professional field while also improving her Turkish national record. Ayyildiz’s record-setting run adds to her strong season, which includes breaking the University of Oregon’s 3000m record in December 2024.
