Jakob Ingebrigtsen set to run indoor mile debut in Lievin
Ingebrigtsen is set to make his indoor mile debut at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais in Liévin on February 13. He has achieved success in the past at this meet, having set the world indoor 1500m record of 3:30.60 here in 2022. Ingebrigtsen is a three-time winner at the Meeting, having secured victories in the 1500m in 2021, 2022, and 2023. He has a personal best outdoor mile time of 3:43.73.
Jake Wightman eyeing British record at Keely Klassic
The 2022 1500m world champion is set to race the 1000m at the inaugural Keely Klassic in Birmingham, England on February 15. Wightman set the record in 2020, running 2:17:51, however countryman Charlie Grice took it in 2021, running 2:17:20 for the distance. Keely Hodgkinson is the namesake for the Klassic, where she will also be attempting a world record in the indoor 800m, and will include elite races ranging from 60m to 1500m on the track, in addition to a women’s pole vault and high jump, and a men’s long jump competition.
Aaliyah Butler signs NIL deal with Nike
The University of Georgia standout is Nike’s second sprinter signed to an NIL deal, following prep Mia Brahe-Pedersen to ink such a partnership with the brand. Butler is a 400m specialist and competed with Team USA at the Paris Olympics, winning gold as part of the 4×400m squad. She is in her junior year with the Bulldogs.
1904 Olympic Gold Medal in final day of bidding
A rare gold medal from the 1904 St. Louis Olympic Games, awarded to American athlete Fred Schule for his victory in the 110-meter hurdles, is in its final day of bidding, with the auction closing tonight at 7:30pm ET. This medal, notable for its excellent condition and the inclusion of most of the original ribbon and case, is currently bid to over $165,000. Of similar note, Bob Beamon’s gold medal from the 1968 Games brought $441,000 at auction in February 2024.
New Balance saw record sales in 2024
According to the brand’s CEO Joe Preston, New Balance closed out 2024 with its fourth consecutive year of growth over 20%, achieving $7.8 billion in annual global sales. He attributed the increases to a strong partnership with Foot Locker, in addition to successes in both the Western Europe and North Asia markets. The remarks came from the National Retail Federation’s Big Show conference on Monday.
