Josh Kerr signs 10-year contract extension with Brooks

The 1500m World Champion announced on Instagram that he and Brooks (including team Brooks Beasts) have signed a long-term contract extension that will keep Kerr in the brand’s kit through 2034. This is a continuation of their already long standing relationship, as he first signed with Brooks in 2018 after a successful collegiate career at the University of New Mexico.

Ruth Chepngetich has been dealing with malaria

Marathon world record holder Ruth Chepngetich revealed that she struggled at the Prisons Cross Country Championships, where she finished in a surprise 4th place, partly because she was recovering from a recent bout of malaria. She explained that the illness had significantly affected her fitness and energy levels, compounding her fatigue from her Chicago Marathon victory. Despite these challenges, Chepngetich remains determined to fully recover and refocus on upcoming races.

Luke Houser joins Atlanta Track Club Elite

Houser, who had an impressive career at the University of Washington, has joined the Atlanta Track Club Elite group. He had originally joined the Seattle-based Brooks Beasts following his graduation in 2024, including donning the team kit at the Olympic Trials, and last posted a result in July. Houser will open his 2025 campaign, debuting in ATC red, at the Dr. Sander Scorcher on Saturday.

Defending champions return for Tokyo Marathon

The Tokyo Marathon, scheduled for March 2, will feature defending champions Sutume Kebede and Benson Kipruto. Kebede, who set a Japanese all-comers’ record of 2:15:55 in 2024, will compete alongside Brigid Kosgei and Rosemary Wanjiru. In the men’s race, Kipruto, holder of the men’s Japanese all-comers’ record at 2:02:16, will face competitors including Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei, the world record-holder for the 5000m and 10,000m.
