Nike announces Swoosh TC elite training network
Nike has launched Swoosh TC, an elite running team network with hubs in Provo, Utah; Flagstaff, Arizona; and Eugene, Oregon. The initiative is led by coaches Diljeet Taylor (Brigham Young University), Mike Smith (currently Northern Arizona University, but departing to join Nike full-time in July), and Jerry Schumacher (University of Oregon). Swoosh TC offers all Nike distance runners access to its facilities and coaching expertise, regardless of their own location and coach. Taylor and Schumacher will continue their collegiate coaching duties in addition to the Swoosh TC responsibilities.
World Records tumble at Millrose Games
At the Millrose Games on Saturday, Grant Fisher and Yared Nuguse set new world indoor records in the 3000 meters and mile, respectively. Fisher completed the 3000 meters in 7:22.91, narrowly defeating Olympic 1500m gold medalist Cole Hocker. Nuguse won his third consecutive Wanamaker Mile in 3:46.63, just ahead of fellow-Olympian Hobbs Kessler, who also finished under the previous world record with a time of 3:46.90. In total, eight men ran sub-3:50, making it the fastest indoor mile race in world history.

- Sadie Engelhardt and Cooper Lutkenhaus set national high school records for the indoor mile (4:27.97) and 800m (1:46.86), respectively
- Also in the mile, UVA’s Gary Martin ran the #2 collegiate all-time mark (3:48.82)
- Josh Hoey set a new American Record for the indoor 800m (1:43.90)
- Whittni Morgan raced to an incredible 3000m finish (8:28.03) to beat a loaded field
- The elite competition kicked off with three consecutive world leads: Masai Russell (60mH, 7.76s), Dylan Beard (60mH, 7.38s), and Jacious Sears (60m, 7.02s)
Sarah Mitton throws best mark seen in 12 years
At the INIT Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe on Friday, Canadian shot putter Sarah Mitton threw a remarkable 20.68 meters, marking the best indoor shot put performance in the event since 2013, which also tied her outright national record. Dutch national record holder Jessica Schilder finished second, with Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye and two-time world champion Chase Jackson finishing in third and fourth place, respectively.
Hellen Obiri not planning on Tokyo World Championships
In a recent interview, Hellen Obiri said that she will not be going to Tokyo for the upcoming World Championships. She is currently training for the Boston Marathon, where she hopes to make it three victories in a row. Obiri stated that she has other races planned for the year, and wants to give other younger runners a chance to represent Kenya on the world stage in September.
Chevron signs 5-year extension with Houston Marathon
Last week, Chevron announced a five-year extension of its title sponsorship with the Houston Marathon, a partnership that goes back to the 2005 event. Bruce Niemeyer, President of Americas Exploration and Production for Chevron, highlighted the company’s commitment to the Houston community, especially with its recent decision to relocate its global headquarters to the city. Since the partnership’s inception, the marathon has hosted significant events, including the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon, and has raised over $39 million through the “Run for a Reason” charity program.
