Pacing is Fulfilling

Everyone knows the absolutely euphoric feeling of a PR (personal record). This isn’t a running-only phenomenon either, I get that same buzz from posting a successful YouTube video or nailing a public speaking event. It’s incredible to do something better than ever before, and helping someone get there is nearly as fun. When I pace someone to a PR or a qualifying time, I get some second-hand euphoria, and the euphoria from a PR is so strong that second-hand euphoria is still an incredible feeling.

At the end of last year, I had the opportunity to pace my brother-in-law, Conor, for a mile time trial. We planned to do this when I was in town for Christmas, but a week before the scheduled time trial date, we both got sick. However, by the day of the event, we were both feeling quite a bit better, and Conor was craving for some of that PR euphoria, so we decided to go for it. His PR going in was 4:54, so we were aiming for 4:50 pace. It wasn’t easy, but we had a ton of fun…watch the video below to see how it went.
