If you were hoping to see the featured matchup of Marcell Jacobs and Fred Kerely on the track this Sunday, then Thursday’s news brought about a massive wave of disappointment to inquiring minds.

It was announced that Jacobs will not be participating in the Men’s 100m in Rabat on Sunday due to an injury that he sustained.

“I am forced to skip the debut 100 meters and the first face off with Kerley in Rabat, which I was really looking forward to, due to a lombo sacral nerve block that I’m working on resolving in the short term,” Jacobs said on Twitter. It’s the result of a misstep and not an injury, which does however keep me from competing in Morocco. I’m in strong physical shape technical and ready for a great outdoor season. The challenge is only postponed.”

The news of Jacobs not competing was met with mixed emotions from athletes across the social media, especially those who are of the mindset that Jacobs tends to duck from the top competition.

Jacobs is still slated to run in Florence, Italy on June 2 against the likes of Fred Kerely at the Golden Gala Pietro pending his health.

The LA Grand Prix is set to kick off on Friday evening, and the stars in the distance races will toe the line to compete. The men’s 5000m is set to feature some of the best talent in the world in the event, such as Addisu Yihune and Abdihamid Nur.

The women’s 5000m will feature the Bowerman crew, led off by Elise Cranny, Karissa Schweizer, Courtney Frerichs and Vanessa Fraser.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
