NFL athletes with track and field experience are putting up numbers each week. Below is a fantasy football week 7 recap of players who are on a roster and also have a background in track and field.
Beyond the usual suspects, highlighting this week is a huge 40+ point outing from Lamar Jackson. Accounting for 4 touchdowns and over 350 yards of passing against what has been a strong defense from Detroit was no small feat. Chargers Tight End Gerald Everett came out with nearly double his expected point earnings, finding the end zone for the second straight week, making the most of his targets.
View below for a full rundown of stats and point totals from the past week’s fantasy action.
Marquise Brown
Wide Receiver, Arizona Cardinals
Caught 3 passes on 7 targets for 49 yards
4.90 points
Brown finished as the Cardinals’ leading receiver in a loss during which starting quarterback Joshua Dobbs threw for just 146 yards with no passing touchdowns. It resulted in the wideout’s second subpar fantasy result in as many weeks. Hollywood has been a streaky option over his five years in the league, so inconsistencies can be expected with an inexperienced journeyman under center for Arizona. Brown will have extra motivation to find the end zone in Week 8 when the Cardinals host his former club, the Baltimore Ravens, next Sunday.
Trey McBride
Tight End, Arizona Cardinals
Caught 3 passes on 6 targets for 29 yards
2.90 points
McBride finished as one of Arizona’s top two leading receivers for the second week in a row. The 23-year-old also finished ahead of veteran starter Zach Ertz (3-19-0) in terms of production in consecutive weeks, as it appears the Cardinals are shifting to a youth movement of sorts midseason. Ertz should remain in the mix for the time being, limiting McBride’s fantasy value in the short term. That said, the 2022 second-round pick could become a hot add if his role grows further against the Ravens next Sunday.
Kyle Pitts
Tight End, Atlanta Falcons
Caught 3 of 4 passes for 47 yards
4.70 points
Pitts got 39 of his yards on what set up the game-winning field goal. This was another strong game for Pitts, who had seven catches in Week 5 and found the end-zone last week.
Lamar Jackson
Quarterback, Baltimore Ravens
Completed 21 of 27 passes for 357 yards and 3 touchdowns; rushed 9 times for 36 yards and 1 rushing touchdown
41.88 points
Jackson had no trouble leading the Baltimore offense against what had been considered one of the better defenses in the league entering the game. He capped the team’s first offensive possession with a seven-yard rushing touchdown, then threw for scores of 12 and 11 yards before halftime. Jackson wasn’t reliant solely on touchdowns for his big performance, as he also tallied his first 300-yard passing effort since Week 5 of the 2021 campaign. He should have a chance for another big game in Week 8 in a matchup against Arizona.
Devin Duvernay
Wide Receiver, Baltimore Ravens
No targets or rushes
0 points
Duvernay went without a target or rush on the offensive side of the ball. In a game that saw very little on the returning side of the special teams from the Ravans, the return specialist was left with little opportunity to put points on the board.
Stefon Diggs
Wide Receiver, Buffalo Bills
Caught 6 of 12 targets for 58 yards and 1 touchdown
11.80 points
Diggs had the presence of mind to get up and keep running after he wasn’t touched on a sliding catch, resulting in a 25-yard touchdown to cut New England’s lead to 22-17 in the fourth quarter. It was Diggs’ sixth touchdown of 2023, putting him on pace for a third consecutive season with double-digit touchdowns. Buffalo’s No. 1 receiver has drawn at least 11 targets in five of the team’s first seven games, and he should remain heavily involved as the Bills try to bounce back Thursday against the Buccaneers.
Ja’Marr Chase
Wide Receiver, Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals had a bye this week
Marquise Goodwin
Wide Receiver, Cleveland Browns
Caught 1 of 2 targets for 6 yards; 1 rush for 17 yards
2.30 points
Goodwin once again had a quiet day as a receiver and has just three catches, nine targets and 10 yards this season. He did, however, contribute as a runner for the second straight week. After a 20-yard end around Week 6 set up a field-goal attempt, his 17-yard run Sunday set up a Kareem Hunt touchdown run. Goodwin has three carries for 38 yards through six games.
Elijah Moore
Wide Receiver, Cleveland Browns
Caught 4 of 7 targets for 59 yards
5.90 points
Moore, who entered the game with 20 combined yards the last two weeks, rebounded to lead the Browns in receiving yards Sunday. He’s been a disappointment thus far, but so has Cleveland’s passing game as a whole. Some of that is due to quarterback Deshaun Watson’s gimpy shoulder, which cost him two games and knocked him out in the first quarter Sunday after being brought down by Colts defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo. However, a healthy Watson was an uneven performer, and that’s impacted the receivers’ production. The Browns have fewer than 200 yards passing in four of six games.
Robert Woods
Wide Receiver, Houston Texans
The Texans had a bye this week
Devin Singletary
Running Back, Houston Texans
The Texans had a bye this week
Clyde Edwards-Helaire
Running Back, Kansas City Chiefs
2 rushes for 5 yards; caught 0 of 1 targets
0.50 points
Edwards-Helaire saw limited action on the offensive side of the ball, only having two rushing attempts and one target in the passing game. This week’s game rivals his lowest marks of the season, which came two weeks ago against Minnesota.
Kadarius Toney
Wide Receiver, Kansas City Chiefs
Caught 1 of 1 targets for 13 yards
1.30 points
Toney continues to be an offensive weapon for the Chiefs, which means it will be feast-or-famine for him on a weekly basis. Toney’s one-catch day was his third one-catch performance of the season, which isn’t what fantasy managers hoped for when drafting him inside the top-10 rounds of drafts. Toney isn’t worth starting in Week 8 against the Broncos.
Mecole Hardman
Wide Receiver, Kansas City Chiefs
Caught 1 of 3 targets for 6 yards
0.60 points
Fresh off a trade from the Jets, Hardman was activated to the Chiefs for game day against San Diego. Hardman saw limited playing time in his first contest with the new team, and it is yet to be seen how he will push for snaps in a Kansas City wideout corps that also includes Rashee Rice, Skyy Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney and Justyn Ross.
Gerald Everett
Tight End, Los Angeles Chargers
Caught 3 of 4 targets for 26 yards and 1 touchdown
8.60 points
Everett was on the receiving end of a seven yard touchdown in the second quarter, but was largely held in check. A quad injury in the third quarter sidelined him for the remainder of the day, but Everett has been a near non-factor for fantasy managers throughout much of the season. His 26 yards were his most since Week 4, and his third-highest total of the season. Even if he’s healthy for Week 8, he’ll be hard to trust as anything more than a desperation streamer.
Tyreek Hill
Wide Receiver, Miami Dolphis
Caught 11 of 15 targets for 88 yards and 1 touchdown
14.80 points
Hill scored his seventh receiving touchdown of the season Sunday, tying the number he scored last year over 17 games in his first season with the Dolphins. The speedster continues to be the focal point of Miami’s high-flying offense while leading the league with 902 receiving yards. Philadelphia’s AJ Brown sits at No. 2 on that list, but he finished with the superior receiving line (10-137-1) for the victorious team Sunday. The Patriots will be the next team to attempt to slow down Hill’s furious pace when Miami hosts New England next Sunday.
Jaylen Waddle
Wide Receiver, Miami Dolphins
Caught 6 of 6 targets for 63 yards
6.30 points
Waddle was forced from the game in the second quarter with a back injury but ultimately would return at the end of the third quarter after receiving treatment in the locker room. He was seen getting loose on the sideline on the team’s first possession after the break. No other pass-catcher other than Tyreek Hill saw more than three targets on the night, upholding the recent trends of a highly concentrated offense. As such, better fantasy days are likely ahead for the dynamic duo in Miami.
De’Von Achane
Running Back, Miami Dolphins
Achane continues his stint on the injured reserve, likely to be out until week 11
Raheem Mostert
Running Back, Miami Dolphins
9 rushes for 45 yards; caught 1 of 3 targets for 6 yards
5.10 points
Mostert’s 10 touches tied his previous low for the season, but he maintained a lofty mark of 5.6 yards per carry despite the low usage. Both of the veteran back’s down games have unsurprisingly come in losses, as teams generally throw more while playing from behind. These sporadic games with low touch counts could wind up being a blessing in disguise over the course of the schedule for a player with Mostert’s injury history. The 31-year-old has already amassed 103 combined touches through seven weeks after recording 212 over 16 games in 2022. Mostert and the Dolphins’ entire offense will look to get back to their high-scoring ways in a home game against New England next Sunday.
Justin Jefferson
Wide Receiver, Minnesota Vikings
Jefferson continues his stint on the injured reserve, reportedly out 4-6 weeks with a hamstring injury
Jalen Reagor
Wide Receiver, New England Patriots
Caught 1 of 1 targets for 11 yards
1.10 points
Elevated from the practice squad ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Bills, Reagor played 25 offensive snaps as the Patriots’ fourth wide receiver behind Kendrick Bourne, Demario Douglas and DeVante Parker. Reagor reeled in his lone target for 11 yards. It’s his only catch across two games this season. He has since been designated back to the practice squad.
Latest: Patriots sign Jalen Reagor to 53-man roster
Chris Olave
Wide Receiver, New Orleand Saints
Caught 7 of 15 targets for 57 yards
5.70 points
Olave’s target tally led the Saints on the night and served as a season high. The second-year wideout has now logged double-digit targets on five occasions in seven games, but some occasional chemistry issues with Derek Carr has prevented Olave from fully capitalizing. The speedster was particularly inefficient with his opportunities Thursday night, but he did manage a second straight seven-catch effort and will face a more palatable matchup in a Week 8 road date against the Colts secondary on Sunday, Oct. 29. Olave was reportedly traveling 35 mph over the posted speed limit. He is getting processed and will be released from Kenner City (La.) Jail. The Saints are aware of the situation, but there are no further details at this time.
Garrett Wilson
Wide Receiver, New York Jets
The Jets had a bye this week
Devon Allen
Wide Receiver, Philadelphia Eagles
Allen remained on the Eagles practice squad for their contest with the Dolphins this week
Kenneth Gainwell
Running Back, Phildelphia Eagles
8 rushes for 16 yards and 1 touchdown
7.60 points
D’Andre Swift (15-62-0) did the heavy lifting for Philadelphia on the ground, but it was Gainwell who cashed in a short touchdown on the Eagles’ final scoring drive. It was the backup’s first trip to the end zone in six games this season. The curious coaching decision to start Gainwell over Swift back in Week 1 is looking more like an anomaly with each passing week, leaving the backup with only deep-league fantasy appeal heading into next Sunday’s matchup against the Commanders.
Jalen Hurts
Quarterback, Philadelphia Eagles
Completed 23 of 31 passes for 279 yards and 2 touchdowns while throwing 1 interception; rushed 11 times for 21 yards
25.26 points
Hurts was sporting a brace on his left knee after hurting it during Sunday night’s 31-17 win over the Dolphins but was adamant after the game that he is “fine.” This seems to confirm that. Hurts’ eight interceptions are already two more than he threw all of last season, and his touchdown rate has dropped in 2023. Hurts gets a juicy Week 8 date with the flailing Commanders. He tossed two touchdowns and threw for a season-high 319 yards versus Washington back in Week 4.
George Pickens
Wide Receiver, Pittsburgh Steelers
Caught 5 of 8 targets for 107 yards
10.70 points
Pickens tied for the team lead in receptions and set the pace in receiving yards and targets in the upset road victory. The second-year wideout made several impressive grabs along the way, including a 31-yarder that served as the Steelers’ second longest of the day and helped fuel Pittsburgh’s second-half surge. Pickens has now cleared the 100-yard mark in consecutive games for the first time in his career, giving him plenty of momentum going into a Week 8 home matchup against the Jaguars.
Logan Thomas
Tight End, Washington Commanders
Caught 4 of 6 targets for 51 yards
5.10 points
The tight end produced his second-highest yardage total of the season on a day when Sam Howell was once again facing near-constant pressure. Thomas has been able to stay mostly healthy so far in 2023, missing only one game, and as a result he’s on pace for his best season since his breakout 2020 campaign.
Jahan Dotson
Wide Receiver, Washington Commanders
Caught 5 of 8 targets for 43 yards
4.30 points
It was better than his one-target, zero-catch outing the week before and technically represents a season-high for yardage, but Dotson still hasn’t reached 50 yards in a game this season or done much of anything to help fantasy managers. He ran a team-high 42 routes, suggesting his starting job is still safe, but the big plays from last year (14.9 YPR, seven TDs in 12 games) have completely dried up. Dotson gets a home game against the Eagles in Week 8, facing veteran cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry.
