If you predicted that a talented sophomore 400m runner would shave off about a second off of his personal best and break the world record in the indoor 400m, then you were happy with Saturday’s result.
On Saturday at the SEC Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Christopher Morales-Williams, who runs for the University of Georgia, took the track and field world by storm by breaking the indoor world and collegiate record in the men’s 400m with his time of 44.49. His time and win also secured him the SEC title in the event.
Morales-Williams, who represents Canada, ran 45.58 in the preliminary rounds on Friday. His previous personal best time was 45.39. The previous record was held by Michael Norman, who ran 44.52 during his time at USC.
Morales-Williams was in lane six, prior to the runners making their way to lane one after the first 200m. He took the lead heading into the last 200m, and created separation from the field in the last 100m of the race.
JeVaughn Powell, who runs for Florida, finished second with a time of 45.61.
Saw him run. Awesome job 💯
