NCAA Records and Champions Crowned on Day 2 of Outdoor Championships

The second day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships were full of excitement from Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. With the second day of competition focused on women’s events, the country’s top programs produced stunning results with numerous NCAA records and six champions coming away with the hardware.

NCAA Records Aplenty

The University of Georgia’s Adaejah Hodge set the tone early, running the fifth fastest wind legal 100m ever. In the first heat of the sprint competition, the top two ranked 100m specialists in the country went head-to-head, as Southern California’s Briana Selby lined up next to Hodge. Less than 11 seconds later, it was the Bulldog who not only came through the line with the win, but a new collegiate record time of 10.63 seconds. This bettered Sha’Carri Richardson’s time of 10.75 from 2019. This final for the women’s 100m will take place on Saturday, June 13 at 5:52pm PT.

Also coming away with a record in the University of Washington’s Amanda Moll. The pole vault specialist has been on a tear all season, and she saved the best for last. On her final attempt of the meet, she jumped 4.84 meters to land atop the podium. The previous NCAA record (4.80m) was held by Amanda’s twin sister Hana, who finished second with a 4.74m jump.

Seven Champions Crowned

In total on the first day of the women’s competition, six champions earned titles:

  • Elisabet Rut Runarsdottit, Texas State – Hammer Throw (73.19m)
  • Alyssa Jones, Stanford – Long Jump (7.06m)
  • Mercyline Kirwa, Iowa State – 10000m (31:54.88)
  • Axelina Johansson, Nebraska – Shot Put (19.92m)
  • McKyla Van Der Westhuizen, Rice – Javelin Throw (60.87m)
  • Amanda Moll, Washington – Pole Vault (4.84m)

Additionally, the decathlon competition concluded on Day 2 of the NCAA Championships, with Brigham Young’s Ben Barton coming away with the win, totally 8169 points across the 10 events.
