Jenny Simpson has a new sponsor and a new focus.

One of the most successful middle-distance runners in American history is now sponsored by Puma and looks to make her mark in road racing.

“My intention is to turn my focus to the roads,” Simpson said to Nick Zaccardi of

NBC Sports in an email. “I have some great PUMA spikes that I love so the track isn’t off the table. But my emphasis will be road racing.”

On the track, Simpson achieved great success in the 1500m. She took home the gold medal in the event at the World Championships in 2011 and won two silver medals at the World Championships in 2013 and 2017. She won the bronze medal in the 1500m at the Olympics in 2016.

She’s set to make her debut this Sunday at the Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
