Stephanie Bruce and Abbabiya Simbassa took home big wins at the Great Cow Harbor USATF 10k Road Championship on Saturday in Northport, NY.
Bruce fended off the likes of an impressive field to take home the title, running 31:52. This is Bruce’s second title in the event, as she continues to impress in her final season in her storied career.
Bruce’s time also set the course record in the event. Nell Rojas was the runner up, with her time of 31:56, while Annie Frisbie finished third, running 31:56. All three athletes will be running in the New York City Marathon in November.
Abbabiya Simbassa delivered a dominating performance in the men’s race, breaking Ryan Hall’s course record with his time of 28:12. Simbassa trains with the Under Armor Mission Run Dark Sky Distance team in Flagstaff.
The race for second was a close one, with Leonard Korir getting the nod as the runner up with his time of 28:34, while Sam Chelanga ran a time of 28:35 for third place.
