Femke Bol continued her dominant indoor season with yet another historic performance, this time in the 400m.
The talented 22-year-old broke the 40-year indoor 400m world record at the Dutch Championships on Sunday with her time of 49.26.
Bol’s historic performance was her second world record that she set in the indoor season, with the first taking place in Boston in early February, when Bol broke the world record in the 500m.
“I was hoping to run the record, of course, but in life you hope for a lot of things and most of the time it does not happen,” Bol told World Athletics after the race. “I am glad that I did not just get the record, but that I improved it by a big margin.
“I wanted this record so badly and I knew I had to make sure to be first going into the final lap. Compared to Lievin (where she ran 50.20 four days earlier) I could really power through between 200m and 300m, and that made the difference.”
Bol’s indoor world record time of 49.26 is faster than her outdoor 400m personal best time of 49.44 that she ran last season.
