Hall to miss Berlin Marathon

One of the most talented distance runners in the world will be absent from this year’s Berlin Marathon.

Sara Hall suffered a minor setback that will force her to miss the Berlin Marathon on Sept. 25. She made the announcement on social media. She now has her sights set on the New York City Marathon.

“Race update: no @berlinmarathon for me,” Hall said on Instagram.

With just 2 months between Worlds and Berlin, I needed everything to go as planned to pull it off- but unfortunately I suffered a flare up of my IT band. I’m focused on @nycmarathon as I’ve always been and getting to the line healthy and fit enough to do what I believe I’m capable of there.

It’s been challenging to miss some running because I love what I do so much. But the time away has allowed my left knee I’ve been managing all year since my fall in February to fully heal. It’s made me realize how much power I was losing out of that left side, so I’m thankful to have that back. I’ll miss not getting to be a part of this epic race, but God always works things together for good- like my knee.

Big thanks to my team especially @ryanhall3 & JB at @getmaxmobility , who have helped me navigate this setback!”

Hall is the third fastest marathon runner in U.S. history, with her time of 2:20:32 that she set in 2020. Only Kara D’Amato and Deena Kastor have gone faster in the event.

In 2020, Hall finished second in the London Marathon. She also finished in third at the Chicago Marathon in 2021.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
