Aleia Hobbs sprinted her way into the record books on Saturday at the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships in Albuquerque.
The talented sprinter won the women’s 60m on Saturday afternoon with a blazing time of 6.94. Her mark was fast enough to break the American record, while also placing her No. 2 all-time in the event. The American record was previously held by both Gail Devers and Marion Jones (6.95).
“I knew for me to get the records, I had to get out of the blocks,” Hobbs said to Lewis Johnson after the race. “In the prelim, my block start wasn’t all that good, so I knew I just needed to get out and finish like I usually do.”
Hobbs had a dominant indoor campaign in the 60m. She went undefeated in the event during the indoor season, and she ran blistering times of 7.04, 7.02, 6.98 along with her American record of 6.94 on Saturday.
Hall wins again
Anna Hall took home the 400m title on Saturday, just two days after she won the women’s pentathlon title.
The talented multi-event athlete and American record holder in the pentathlon ran 51.03 in her 400m win, finishing ahead of Na’asha Robinson (52.30) and Brittany Aveni (52.67).
