One of the greatest marathon runners in U.S. history added another accomplishment to her resume.
Deena Kastor ran 2:45.12 at the Berlin Marathon on Sunday, which meant that she’s run all six World Major Marathons, making her a six-star finisher.
“We’ll, that was amazing!” Kastor said on Instagram. “From the moment I laced up my shoes to posing with a six-star medal 42 KM later, the BMW Berlin marathon over delivered.
All the professional athletes were generous and gracious sharing kind words with me all week and prior to the race, the runners who paused before they passed me to cheer or share a story, and the many spectators who knew me well enough to shout out my name for encouragement all contributed to an unparalleled marathon experience. Thank you 🙏 for contributing to this great sport and representing it so well.”
Kastor has won two World Major Marathon titles in her career (2005 Chicago Marathon, 2006 London Marathon), while also taking home the bronze medal in the Marathon at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Kastor formerly held the American record in the marathon until it was broken back in January by Keira D’Amato.
She currently runs with the Mammoth Track Club, where she’s coached by her husband, Andrew Kastor.
