The greatest female 400m hurdler in the history of track and field will be showcasing her talents in an additional event.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will look to give the open 400m a chance, as she eye’s the 37-year-old world record in the event.
“I don’t think we’re going to give up the 400m hurdles just yet, but we definitely want to expand to the 400m flat and just see what’s possible there,” McLaughlin-Levrone said in an interview with NBC Sports.
“That world record has stood for so long, and no one’s come even close to it,” she said in the interview. “So we definitely want to be able to try that and see what we can do there as well.”
McLaughlin-Levrone’s personal best time of 50.07 in the 400m was set back in 2018 when she ran for the University of Kentucky. She recorded her fastest ever split in the 4×400 meter relay at worlds this past summer, with her time of 47.91.
Sanya Richards-Ross holds the American record in the event (48.70), while Marita Koch owns the world-record in the event (47.60).
