The Drake Relays promises to be one of the best meets of the season so far, and if the competition in the shot put so far is any indication of how the meet will go, then we will be in for some amazing performances.
Two of the all-time best throwers in the world took to the shot put ring and delivered two great performances. Olympic gold medalist and world record holder Ryan Crouser and world champion Chase Ealey won their individual shot put competitions, with Crouser recording a mark of 22.42m, while Ealey won with a mark of 19.54, respectively.
Crouser also took part in the team shot put competition with fellow thrower Jessica Woodyard. The duo finished second to Maggie Ewen and Adrian Piperi.
Crouser only needed three throws to put away the competition. Crouser set the tone for the event with his opening throw of 22.42 and never looked back. Piperi finished second in the event with his mark of 21.45m.
Ealey battled until the very end, but was able to hold off Danniel Thomas-Dodd, who finished in second place with her throw of 19.52m, just behind Ealey’s winning throw of 19.54m. Thomas-Dodd also set the Jamaican national indoor record with her performance.
