The London Marathon will be short a big name when the race kicks off this Sunday.
Sir Mo Farah announced on Wednesday that he’s pulled out of the race due to a hip injury.
“I’ve been training really hard over the past few months and I’d got myself back into good shape and was feeling pretty optimistic about being able to put in a good performance,” Farah said in a press release. “However, over the past 10 days I’ve been feeling pain and tightness in my right hip. I’ve had extensive physio and treatment and done everything I can to be on the start line but it hasn’t improved enough to compete on Sunday.”

Farah said that he hopes to return to the race in 2023.
Farah holds the British record in the marathon, running 2:05.11 at the Chicago Marathon back in 2018.
On the track, Farah’s record is nothing short of legendary. He’s won four Olympic gold medals and six World Championship gold medals, while also setting multiple British and European records.
