The men’s and women’s 100m was one of the most highly anticipated events headed into the World Championships in Budapest. Needless to say, the performances did not disappoint and were full of excitement, especially if you’re a fan of Team USA.

On Sunday evening, Noah Lyles took home the gold for Team USA, winning the men’s 100m with a new personal best time of 9.83. 24 hours later, Sha’Carri Richardson surged past the competition, winning the women’s 100m with her time of 10.65.

Lyles had a sensational semifinal round in the men’s 100m, running 9.87. He, along with Christian Coleman were the lone American’s in the field, after Fred Kerely and Cravont Charleston were unable to make the finals. In those finals, Lyles surged past the competition to take the win. Letslie Tebogo and Zharnell Hughes took the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Richardson’s semifinal was eventful to say the least. She finished third in her heat in what was an extremely quick race. She was able to make the final as one of the fastest qualifiers and was slated to run in the finals from lane 9. In the finals, she proceeded to sprint her way into the history books, winning the women’s 100m against an incredibly talented field of runners. Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce finished with the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Lyles and Richardson are set to run the 200m that starts on Wednesday.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
