The Twin Cities Marathon once again did not disappoint.

People filled the streets to cheer on the runners, and they were treated to a competitive race that finished with big wins from Jessica Watychowicz and Yuya Yoshida.

Watychowicz caught Kim Conley at mile 23 of the race to take the lead, and she never looked back. She set a new personal best with her winning time of 2:33:09. Bridget Belyeu finished in second place with her time of 2:35:18, while Conley also ran a new personal best of 2:35:43. All three athletes have now qualified for the 2024 Olympic Marathon Trails.

Yuya Yoshida also used a late surge to take the win in the men’s race. He took the lead in the race around 40k and would not be overtaken, running a time of 2:04:42. Wilfred Kimitei finished in second place, running 2:13:51, while Daniel Mesfun finished in third place, running 2:13:35.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
