Meb Keflezighi announced today that he will return to the streets of Boston to run the prestigious marathon, 10 years following his historic victory. In a post to Instagram, he said, “I have a huge announcement. I am lacing my shoes in Hopkinton and running the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2024.”

Meb will be running the race in celebration of the 10-year anniversary of his winning performance from 2014, in addition to “illuminating the way for the MEB Foundation.” He is partnering with Charity Teams to launch Team Meb Gives Back, a fundraising campaign to, “light the path for those in need and show the world the power of compassion and community.”

For those running the Boston Marathon as a qualified registered or invitational runner, they can sign-up for the initiative at https://charityteamsruns.wufoo.com/forms/q18n3sfd1p1i5l3/, and should they raise $1,000 for the MEB Foundation through this campaign by March 15, will receive:

  • One ticket to the MEB Foundation Brunch on April 13 at the Fairmont in Boston
  • A meet and greet with Meb
  • A custom long sleeve shirt
  • An autographed copy of Meb’s best-selling book, 26 Marathons

At the 2014 Boston Marathon, Meb came into the race already a legend in the sport. At that time, he was a three-time Olympian (Sydney, Athens, and London), had earned an Olympic Silver Medal in the marathon (Athens, 2004), and was the 2009 New York City Marathon Champion. In 26 Marathons, of the race that day, he wrote, “The only thing missing from my resume was a Boston title. I felt I could do it by drawing on the spirit of the thirty-six thousand runners who would be out there taking back the streets of Boston.” And that he did. At the end of the day, he crossed the line victorious, earning the title of Boston Marathon Champion, finishing the race in a personal best time of 2:08:37.

Meb’s professional running career would span seven more marathons, including another Olympic Games (Rio) before retiring from professional running after the 2017 New York City Marathon. In total, he competed in 26 marathons, including 20 top-10 finishes, and nine podiums. Meb stays connected to the sport in numerous ways today. Whether joining the broadcast booth or championing youth health, education, and fitness through the MEB Foundation, Marathon Meb continues to pour his all into each of his endeavors.
