Real Talk with World Indoor Gold Medalist Ajee’ Wilson

This week on RealTalk, I had an amazing time meeting with World Indoor Gold Medalist Ajee’ Wilson. Born and raised in New Jersey, Ajee’ began to win world youth titles 10 years ago just at the age of 17 while training under Derek Thompson (current coach). Not only did she set the American 800m Record, she’s also a 12 time USA Champion, earning 9 World Medals in her career so far. Ajee’ is recently gearing up to compete in the USATF Bermuda Games this weekend at Flora Duffy Stadium.

Ajee’ has made every senior team since 2013, that is beyond consistent in our sport. She also has a pretty interesting race strategy that only a few athletes can master successfully: after Wilson’s first 300 meters she convinces her brain the race has just begun. Listen to learn how she developed this strength.

In this episode, Ajee’ takes us through her career from the very beginning. Growing up in Neptune, New Jersey, her Track and Field career started off as a family vacation filled with fun. Her talent began to take her to higher levels, but Ajee’ commends her support system for keeping her grounded and calm. She also talks about her decision to turn professional instead of going through the NCAA process. Ajee’ Wilson’s performance at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia was outstanding! Blazing through her last 200m at 29.5 winning by over a second, I am overly excited to see her compete this outdoor season!

Our pre race nap queen says “ A calm Ajee’ is a good Ajee’ ” 🤗
