Diamond League Schedule for Prefontaine Classic

The Prefontaine Classic is just a month away, and now we know when the marquee events will take place.

There will be 14 Diamond Discipline events in Eugene on May 25, with a potential world record race to kick off the festivities at the top of the show.

It was announced that Gudaf Tsegay, who ran a world record 5k (14:00.21) at last year’s Pre Classic, will attempt to find Hayward Magic once again at this year’s event, but this time at double the distance. She has her sights set on the 10k record, which will lead off the meet.

The Diamond Discipline events start just before 1pm in the field with a women’s Discus Throw, which is anticipated to feature Valarie Allman, Laulauga Tausaga, and Sandra Elkasević. The women’s pole vault will kick off shortly thereafter, and will see a head-to-head matchup between USA’s Katie Moon and Sandi Morris. Later in the afternoon, the women’s 800m race will feature last year’s World Championships podium finishers, Mary Moraa, Keely Hodgkinson, and Athing Mu.

The men’s shot put will also see a clash of titans with Ryan Crouser, Tom Walsh, and Joe Kovacs on the schedule. The Bowerman Mile will close the show, with Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Josh Kerr, and Yared Nuguse on tap.
