NCAA Championship (DI)

June 8 – 11

The NCAA Championships represent much what is great about the sport, in addition to what many love about sports in general: incredible individual performances, big upsets, new names being etched into history, and the nail-biting end-of-weekend rundown to an overall team champion.

After Day 1, six champions have been crowned:

  • Men’s hammer: Logan Blomquist of Southeast Missouri State
  • Men’s pole vault: Sondre Guttormsen of Princeton
  • Men’s javelin: Marc Minichello of Penn
  • Men’s long jump: Wayne Pinnock of Tennessee
  • Men’s shot put: Adrian Piperi of Texas
  • Men’s 10,000 meters: Dylan Jacobs of Notre Dame

Day 2 is a day for the women’s events, begins at 3pm ET with the women’s hammer throw and concludes nearly 6 hours later with the women’s 4×400 relay semifinals, with pole vault, javelin, long jump, shot put, and aforementioned hammer all having finals.

The decathlon will also continue to be contested on Thursday (Day 2), and by the end of the day, we will have an NCAA Champion in the event following the 1500m, starting just before 8pm ET.

Rome Diamond League

June 9

The Diamond League continues its series with a stop in Rome, kicking off with the men’s discus throw at 12:30pm ET and concluding with the men’s 100 meters at 3:52pm.

Sandi Morris looks to go 3-for-3 in Diamond League pole vault events, following wins London and Rabat, and we will also be watching Joe Kovacs to continue his tear on the international circuit after big throws in Ostrava and Chorzow.

The women’s 1500m is always a spectacle, with Laura Muir and Cory McGee taking on the world indoor silver and bronze medalists, Ethiopia’s Axumawit Embaye and Hirut Meshesha, respectively. We also can’t wait to see how Athing Mu kicks off her Diamond League season in the 800 meters. Finally, on the day’s concluding event, 5 US men, including Fred Kerley and Michael Rodgers, are scheduled to start the 100 meters. Can the USA go 1-2-3?

Portland Track Festival

June 10 – 11

The Portland Track Festival is in its 14th season, and they have an awesome lineup for both Friday and Saturday. The festival has a host of events, ranging from middle and high school to high-performance elite competition. All told, across the two days, there are over 45 races taking place, so the action is going to be virtually non-stop in their packed schedule. To get the full scope of athletes competing on the high-performance side, check out their press release here.

The Festival is implementing Tracklandia’s pay-per-view broadcast revenue sharing model, which will add $3 of every $5.99 PPV purchase into the overall prize purse.

Don’t miss the famous trackside ‘Tracklandia Living Room’, where the winners of each race will be conducting their post-race interviews with the Running Report’s Aaron and Joshua Potts.

Full schedule, start lists, and livestream / in-person tickets are available at https://tracklnd.com/meet/ptf – and don’t worry, one pay-per-view purchase is good for both days of the competition.

NYC Mini 10k

June 11

The NYC Mini 10K will enjoy its 50th running this year. Per the NYRR site, “Founded in 1972—and named after a symbol of women’s liberation, the miniskirt—this 10K race empowers women of all ages and fitness levels to come together, be active, and accomplish a running milestone alongside other inspiring runners.”

Like most events hosted in the Big Apple, the elite competition promises to be stout. Per a NYRR press release, “U.S. Olympians Emily Sisson, Molly Seidel, Aliphine Tuliamuk, and Rachel (Schneider) Smith will lead a strong American contingent that will go up against previously announced Olympic, TCS New York City Marathon, and Boston Marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir, United Airlines NYC Half champion and 5K world-record holder Senbere Teferi, and two-time Mini 10K champion Sara Hall…The deep U.S. women’s contingent also includes American marathon record-holder Keira D’Amato, the top American finisher at the last two Boston Marathons Nell Rojas, 2019 New York Mini 10K runner-up Stephanie Bruce, U.S. national champion Erika Kemp, and the top American finisher at the 2022 United Airlines NYC Half Lindsay Flanagan.”

Unfortunately, Molly Seidel recently announced that she has withdrawn from the event, “due to an ongoing TUE application process for ADHD medication.” We wish her the best through this process.
