USATF has named 57 athletes to represent the United States at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow. Following an incredible USATF Indoor Championships last weekend, there is a lot to be excited about going into these Championships.
Exciting Matchups on the Docket
Noah Lyles and Christian Coleman are both on the roster for the 60 meters. Lyles bested Coleman in their last matchup at USA Indoors by .01 seconds. They both have to be favorites going in, and it is anybody’s guess as to who will come away with the gold.
Katie Moon and Sandi Morris will be flying high in the pole vault competition, each having jumped at least 4.80 meters so far this year. On the men’s side, Chris Nilsen and Sam Kendricks will take on Mondo Duplantis of Sweden. Nilsen recently jumped 6 meters with Kendricks just following at 5.95m, both at the USATF Indoor Championships, with Mondo marking a world-leading 6.02m at the All Star Perche.
With Laura Muir and Josh Kerr on the British Athletics squad for the 3000 meters, it promises to be a highlight event. They will face off against Elle St Pierre and Yared Nuguse, respectively, with Josette Andrews and Olin Hacker being formidable opponents to challenge for the top spot on the podium.
In the triple jump, Donald Scott earned a bronze medal in Belgrade in 2022 and is surely eying another podium finish next week in Glasgow.
Hobbs Kessler comes in as perhaps the most exciting miler in the USA. Following a second place finish in the Wanamaker Mile at Millrose (3:48.66) and a runner-up showing in the 1500m at USA’s, can this be his breakout moment on the world stage? He will be once again racing Cole Hocker who bested him to the line in Albuquerque.
Alexis Holmes and Talitha Diggs promise to make an exciting 400 meter matchup against Femke Bol, who set a new world record in the event at the Dutch Indoor Championships.
Ryan Crouser and Chase (Ealey) Jackson will look to follow their silver medals from the 2022 Belgrade Indoor World Championships with gold. Each have thrown world leading puts of 22.80m and 20.02m so far this year.
Tia Jones is notably missing from the Team USATF roster due to an injury following the USA Indoors Final. We would have loved to see a head-to-head matchup between her and Devynne Charlton given their recent world record tying performances, but hope for a full recovery for Jones. We do not envy the selection process for the women’s 60 meter hurdles, as it is consistently such a deep field to choose from. It will be difficult to count out Masai Russell, who held the NCAA record for a time in 2023, and the always in-contention Christina Clemons, who won a silver medal at the Birmingham Indoor Championships in 2018.
