Masai Russell showed why she’s one of the best hurdlers in the NCAA this past weekend.
The talented hurdler who competes for the University of Kentucky broke the NCAA record for the 60m hurdles at the Red Raider Open in Lubbock, Texas, with her time of 7.75 seconds in the event.
The previous record of 7.78 seconds was held by Grace Starks, who competes for the University of Florida, as well as 2016 Olympic 100m hurdles gold medalist Brianna Rollins-McNeal.
Russell, who also competes in the 100 hurdles, the 400m hurdles and is a member of Kentucky’s 4×100 meter relay squad, has had a phenomenal career during her time at Kentucky.
While she’s a graduate student for the Wildcats, her most successful season took place last season as a senior. She finished as a runner-up at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in the 60m hurdles and earned third place finish in the 400m hurdles and a fourth place finish at the NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships. She also was a member of the 4×100 meter relay squad that finished second at the event.
Russell is also an eight-time All-American.
