Reframing Negative Thoughts

Share this article:

At the beginning of this year, I did a 3 mile time trial, which to some might sound like .1 shy of a 5k and leave them wondering why I didn’t just go the extra tenth of a mile; however, this was nothing like a 5k. This was an absolutely brutal steep uphill 3 mile grind with 2000ft of vertical gain (and a nice little view at the end). I knew going in that it would be a challenge, but I did not foresee how immediate that challenge would be.

I decided to take on this endeavor because I had put together a solid training block, and I wanted to finish it off with a race effort. Well, this time trial certainly provided that. From the start of the uphill, my legs felt like lead and my breathing was out of control. I had to constantly reframe negative thoughts and remind myself that I went into this looking for a challenge. Even though it was physically and mentally difficult, I knew that I was capable of continuing as long as I stayed engaged and committed to my goal. Watch the video below to see how it all played out.
