Cooper Teare has decided to leave the Bowerman Track Club after being a member of the team for one season.

On Friday night, the talented middle distance/distance standout announced that he would be leaving the BTC on social media. He becomes the second athlete to depart from the club this month, with Grant Fisher announcing his departure from the BTC just 8 days prior.

“After much consideration and reflection on the past year, I’ve made the decision to leave Bowerman Track Club” Teare announced on Instagram on Friday night. “I’m incredibly thankful for the experiences I had with the people who made them possible, but moving forward I feel it’s in my best interest to go another direction. Thank you everyone for the support.”

Teare ran a lifetime best in the men’s 1500m this past season with his time of 3:32.74. He also ran a new personal best in the men’s 5000m this past season with his time of 13:12.  He just missed making the U.S. men’s 5000m team, finishing fifth at the USATF Outdoor Championships back in July.

The Bowerman Track Club, coached by Jerry Schumacher and Shalane Flanagan, boasts an impressive roster, both past and present, including Moh Amhed, Elise Cranny, and Courtney Frerichs. Following Teare’s announcement, the group posted, “Cooper’s versatile racing style and gamer attitude is off for the next stop in his young and decorated athletic career. Not a long time but a good time for Cooper at Bowerman. His contagious energy will be missed on the team, but we know he’ll make waves in the new landing spot. Good luck, rooting for you!”

Teare is the second high-profile move from the club in just over a week, though the club has seen numerous changes this year. Woody Kincaid previously left BTC for Flagstaff to be coached by Mike Smith at Northern Arizona University. Just before him Britain’s Marc Scott parted with the group to train with the NN Running Team in Kenya, and Amos Bartlemeyer of Germany made the move to Nike’s Union Athletics Club.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
