Abby Steiner Opens Season with 200m Win at Bermuda Grand Prix; First Race in Nearly a Year

In her first race in nearly a year, Abby Steiner started her 2024 campaign with a win at the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix.

Running from lane 6, she got out of the blocks right away and made up the stagger quickly. By the time she came through the turn, Steiner already held a comfortable lead and kept strong through the finish line. She completed the 200m race in 22.71 seconds ahead of runner-up Kynnedy Flannel who finished in 23.01.

The reason Steiner has not raced since the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships is due to having had surgery in the off season for a bone spur in her heel. At the time, she posted to Instagram, “For the past 6ish months, I’ve been dealing with a bone spur in my left heel that’s been pressing against my Achilles’ tendon.” It is then that she finished her outdoor campaign in favor of an operation to, “get back to being pain free again.”

After the race, she told Lewis Johnson, “Excited to get the first one under my belt…This is fun, I’m having a good time, I’m happy to be back out here.”

Abby Steiner took the collegiate sprinting world by storm in 2021 and 2022 racing for the University of Kentucky. Following four NCAA Championship trophies, she earned the USA Championship in 2022 in the 200 meters and went on to race for two World Championship gold medals in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays in Eugene (2022).
