Day 9

The afternoon session was full of finals, with four individual events and two relays on Day Nine of the World Athletics Championship Oregon22 at Hayward Field on July 23, 2022.

Portugal’s Pedro Pichardo’s excellent first jump of 17.95m was enough to stand until the end, winning him the gold medal in the men’s triple jump. It was the longest jump of the 2022 season. It was Pichardo’s first medal for Portugal but third overall as he won two silver medals for Cuba.

The Tokyo Olympic 800-meter champion, Emmanuel Korir of Kenya, won his first world title in 1:43.71. It’s the seventh gold medal for Kenya in the event.

Gudaf Tsegay from Ethiopia won her first world title in the women’s 5,000 meters with 14:46.29. Tsegay also won a silver in the 1,500 meters on day four. It was the fifth time Ethiopia won the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.

Grenadian Anderson Peters defended his world title with a 90.54m throw in the men’s javelin. Peters is the second men’s javelin thrower to defend his world title.

The afternoon session ended with two 4×100-meter relays on Day Nine of the World Athletics Championship Oregon22 at Hayward Field on July 23, 2022. The relays were a spectacle to watch.

In the women’s 4×100-meter relay, the United States upset Jamaica. The Americans’ time of 41.14 is the second fastest time at the World Championships and the fifth fastest of all time. Jamaica was behind by .04 of a second. The Americans have won it 13 times. Pictured: Melissa Jefferson, Abby Steiner, Jenna Prandini, Twanisha “Tee Tee” Terry.

After the United States women won, Canada stunned the Americans in the men’s 4×100-meter relay with a time of 37.48. It is the third time the Canadians have won the event. The United States lost by .07 of a second. Pictured: Aaron Brown, Brendon Rodney, Andre De Grasse, Jerome Blake.

Day 8

The atmosphere in the afternoon session with four finals was electric on Day Seven of the World Athletics Championship Oregon22 at Hayward Field on July 22, 2022. It was a world record show and a night of many firsts.

Sydney McLaughlin from the United States broke her world record for the fourth time in the last 13 months with a time of 50.68 in the women’s 400m hurdles. McLaughlin, 22, became the second-youngest track and field athlete to have an Olympic gold, world title and world record. What’s next? The flat 400m? 100 hurdles? Or continue competing against herself?

Michael Norman won his first individual global medal with a time of 44.29. The gold medal went to an American for the first time in the men’s 400m since LaShawn Merritt in 2013.

The two-time Olympic champion and two-time silver world medalist Shaunae Miller-Uibo from the Bahamas won her first world title with 49.11. With three medals in the 400m, Miller-Uibo ties four other women with the most in the event.

Australia’s Kelsey-Lee Barber won the gold medal in the women’s javelin with a mark of 66.91m. Barber became the first woman to defend her world title in the event.

Day 7

It was a night of both men’s and women’s 200-meter finals on Day Seven of the Oregon22 World Athletics Championship from Hayward Field on July 21, 2022. The American men, from left to right, Noah Lyles, Kenny Bednarek, and Erriyon Knighton, went 1-2-3, and the Jamaican women went one and two.

Noah Lyles won the gold medal and became a back-to-back world champion with a time of 19.31. Lyles broke Michael Johnson’s American record by .01 seconds.

Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson won the gold medal and clocked the second fastest time ever in the women’s 200 meters with a time of 21.45. Jackson got a personal best, national record, and championship record.

Day 6

There were only two finals, and the people of China and Kazakhstan were the ones to celebrate Day Six of the World Athletics Championship Oregon22 at Hayward Field on July 20, 2022.

China’s Bin Feng improved her personal best by 3.12 meters in the women’s discus to beat her idol, Sandra Perković, who earned her fifth consecutive medal and has the most in the event’s history.

Feng’s performance also bested Valarie Allman, who had the 2022 world-leading mark.

“My biggest rival this year – Valarie Allman – and I managed to beat her on the home soil,” she said.

With a mark of 69.12 meters, Feng won the gold medal.

Norah Jeruto won the first ever gold medal for Kazakhstan in World Championships’ history. Jeruto’s time of 8:53.02 in the women’s 3000 meter steeplechase was the third fastest performance of all time.
