For the third straight week, an athlete has announced their departure from Bowerman Track Club.

Elise Cranny, who has been with the group for the past four years, announced on Instagram that she would be moving on. “Damn, change is hard. And having the opportunity to be part of such an incredible community at every level of the sport from youth to masters has made this decision extremely challenging. But the time has come for me to make a change.”

Following a standout collegiate career that included 12 All-American honors at Stanford, Cranny has been a force in the distance events while with BTC. She is a four-time USA Champion: three times in the 5000 meters (2021, 2022, and 2023), in addition to earning the 10k crown at the 2023 USA Championships. He personal best time in the 5k is also the current indoor American Record for the event, having set a mark of 14:33.17 in 2022.

The Bowerman Track Club, coached by Jerry Schumacher and Shalane Flanagan, boasts an impressive roster, both past and present. Following Cranny’s announcement, the group posted, “If you’re lucky, you get to come across a person like Elise only a handful of times in your life. At Bowerman Track Club, we’ve had the privilege of growing alongside her throughout the last four years. And, just like you, have learned the epitome of perseverance by watching her climb to be one of the fastest in the world. We are forever grateful for the value Elise brought to our club and wish her the absolute best for 2024 and beyond.”

Cranny is the third high-profile move from the club in just the past two weeks, following Cooper Teare and Grant Fisher in their departures, among numerous changes this year. Woody Kincaid previously left BTC for Flagstaff to be coached by Mike Smith at Northern Arizona University. Just before him Britain’s Marc Scott parted with the group to train with the NN Running Team in Kenya, and Amos Bartlemeyer of Germany made the move to Nike’s Union Athletics Club.
